Allowing Evil and Suffering

More on why God being good is still allowing evil and suffering to continue on this earth. And also why the existence of evil is actually proof that God exists.

This page is the continuation of what you can already find on the home page here (or for mobile here), where we talk about God allowing evil and suffering.

Note that this page may be extended and improved upon in the near future.
From YouTube channel Scripture and Song Tolfa. This video is also present on the home page as the main link in this section, or for mobile here, with the title If God exists then how come there’s so much suffering in the world?.

Some interesting comments, one mentioning the poem by Annie J. Flint that Ravi recited

He simply writes down a poem Ravi has recited in the video:

He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

» If God Why Evilby Norman Geisler
A 35-minute talk covering deep and solid knowledge interspersed with good humor.

Transcripts of some parts
You won’t taste the good humor parts here. You’ll have to see the video for that.
16:33
Then He defeats evil by 1. someday separating good from evil.
You know what bothers good people? Evil!
You know what bothers evil people? Good!
I used to work on the assembly line in Detroit when I was growing up. And I can tell you right there, there’s good and evil people. There’s nobody in-between.
You know what bothered me? The evil people swearing, cursing, telling filthy stories, blowing their smoke in my face.
You know what bothered them? Me reading my Bible, witnessing, passing out tracts.
There’s a solution to that. In eternity there’s gonna be a smoking section and a non-smoking section. You can guess which is which. And no one’s going to be able to blow smoke in your face, and they’re gonna be able to smoke as long as they want to. Separating evil from good forever. The Bible says that in terms of the sheep and the goats; the good fish and the bad fish; separating good from evil.

31:52
God knew that we would never get to the promised land without first going through the wilderness.
God knew that Christians would be like tea. Their real strength comes out when they get into hot water. And God gives us the hot water.
God knew that you can’t get the imperfections to surface unless you put the heat on the coal, and the imperfections surface. And the heat of this world, and the heat of suffering and pain is what makes the imperfections surface.

33:02
You see, God is love, and love always works persuasively, never coercively. Forced love is a contradiction in terms. And the reason there’s a hell is not simply that God is just and must punish evil, but because He’s so loving He won’t force people against their will.
Now, my wife said, “Be sure, and tell ‘m that one illustration,” because it means so much to her. And being a good husband always obeying my wife, I’m gonna now tell ya what she told me to tell you.
If you can’t stand being in church for one hour praising God and loving Jesus, how would you feel if you had to go to church forever? It would be hell, right? Yeah, heaven would be hell for an unbeliever who doesn’t love Jesus; whose heart’s not changed; who didn’t respond to His grace. You can’t force people into heaven.

» Does Evil & Suffering Disprove God’s Existence? No. by Charlie H. Campbell of AlwaysBeReady.com
Addresses a great many objections that atheists or skeptics may have.
Joe says he cannot understand himself either why God doesn’t eradicate suffering in this world. But one day he will, he then says. And gives the example of Nick Vujicic (born without any arms or legs), who thought he was a loser up to age 15, but then he started to see his ministry for suffering people.
Joe also says that if God would eradicate the world’s suffering, it would mean He would also have to destroy you (coz you’ve done harm to some people when lying or stealing, or whatever), but He doesn’t want to do that before a certain time when all people will have gotten the chance to hear the Gospel.
